The Seoul International Invention Fair 2002 (SIIF 2002), the nation’s first international invention exhibition, kicks off for a five-day run today at the Pacific Hall of the Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX) in southern Seoul. The international fair, featuring about 500 inventions from more than 200 individuals and companies in 34 countries worldwide, is the world’s largest invention exhibition ever. Patent offices and patent information and technology transfer-related organizations from across the world will also participate in the event. The SIIF 2002, hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and organized by the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), not only provides inventors the chance to display their new products but also serves as a venue for consultation on commercialization and intellectual property rights (IPR). According to KIPO, the event is even larger than Germany’s ``Ideas-Inventions-New Products’’ (IENA) exhibition and Switzerland’s International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products _ the world’s two most prestigious invention exhibitions. SIIF 2002 will provide valuable information for marketing and commercialization of inventions, applying for patents and technology transfer, as well as offer great opportunities to corporate participants and individual inventors to increase their satisfaction and success. At the award ceremony, international juries will assess new inventions and technologies based on the added value of the technology, its prospects for commercialization and contribution to environment and human life. A total of 117 companies and individual inventors receive awards at the SIIF 2002 _ one presidential prize, two prime minister’s prizes, one WIPO director general’s prize, one IFIA chairman’s prize, 14 gold prizes, 28 silver prizes and 70 bronze prizes. President of MPman.com Moon Kwang-su receives the prestigious presidential prize, Prof. Park Joon-won of Pohang University of Science and Technology’s Chemistry Department and BBN Speedy CEO Kang Byung-nam take out the Prime Minister’s prizes. Dream To Reality CEO Kim Jong-chul receives the WIPO director general prize and Steel Korea CEO Park Dae-yeol wins the IFIA Chairman’s prize |
