Avian influenza has crossed the species barrier in posse an increasing pandemic threat. Unfortunately, the clinical experience of Oseltamavir, the major active compound of Tamiflu, shows no evidence of effectiveness. Therefore, for solution the problem of human influenza virus, developing new drugs possessed different structure and mode of action from natural medicine will be worth investigation. Lonicera japonica Thunb., is used commonly to treat various diseases including the respiratory tract infections, sore swollen throat, abscess and scab. The Honeysuckle Care Candy was a formulary product composed of major ingredients of Lonicera japonica Thunb. and several nature-herbs. The antiinfluenza activity of Honeysuckle and its formula had verified by XTT method and Plaque Reduction Assay (PRA) on H1N1 in vitro. The sweet but not bitter candy-dosage was finally made up of Honeysuckle formula and delicious food additives. We hope that this project be to enhance the prevention of influenza infection.
